Day Trips from Sydney

Not even a moment of dullness, never a boring second, just an innocent delight for your senses- this is basically what day trips from Sydney offer. Leave behind the glamor and glitz of metropolitan Sydney and head to the beautiful places near the city.

Port Stephens

Port Stephens is an eye-catching coastal sanctuary where the countryside meets the sea. Situated just two and a half hours north of Sydney, it offers a wonderful blue water getaway, long miles of white sandy coasts, whale and dolphin watching, swimming, sand tobogganing, scuba diving, snorkeling, crafty markets and historical lighthouse. And by the way, there’s a nudist beach close by as well.

Hunter Valley

Hunter Valley is merely a two-hour drive away from Sydney. This beautiful place is famous for its luxuriant green environments and incredible wineries such as Lindemans Winery. Most homes in the Hunter Valley offer attractive gardens but you will be fascinated by the twenty five hectares of globally applauded plants at the Hunter Valley Gardens, which comprises superb topiary trees and the biggest rose garden in Southern Hemisphere.

Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains is an exciting blend of canyons, tall forests as well as rainforest. The breathtaking scenery is given by the Grand Arch, the 3 Sisters, Anvil Rock, Jenolan Caves, Twin Falls and Hanging Rocks and the amazing the Grose Valley. Famous Blue Mountain activities consist of self guided terrain vehicle touring, bush walking, wildlife viewing (kangaroos, koalas, kookaburras and parrots), taking the Skyway Cable Car, picturesque railway and caving (Jenolan Caves).

The Blue Mountains borders Sydney’s metropolitan area. The area begins on the west side of Nepean River and extends as far as Cox’s River.

Royal National Park

royal national parkThe Royal National Park is a short trek outside of the city just 30 kilometers south. Once there, you have the ability to experiences pristine beaches, scenic overlooks, bush walks and rainforest all in one place. This is the oldest national park in Australia, and the second in the entire world after Yellowstone in the United States. It used to be called simply The National Park until 1955 when Queen Elizabeth II happened to pass by.

I took a really great tour to the Royal National Park with UDU that I would recommend to anyone looking to get out of the city for a bit.

Southern Highlands

The Southern Highlands have been famous as a getaway for many stressed city dwellers. During summer seasons, the hills are the perfect place to escape the hot weather.

Located an hour south of Sydney, the Southern Highlands are the best place for a weekend day trip , although there are so many things that you can do if you will stay for more than just a day. Several historic guesthouses are open for the public and there is an affluence of accommodation alternatives that will suit your budget. Tourists are attracted by the historic villages, spectacular waterfalls, and abundant agricultural landscapes.

Canberra

canberra
Go and visit the attractive Canberra on your day trip from Sydney. The country’s capital, a modern city, with impressive buildings still holds quite a rustic appeal thanks to the gardens, lakeside and open areas.

You can visit the billion-dollar worth Parliament House, the New Museum and the Prime Minister’s Lodge. Plus you shouldn’t miss the remarkable Australian War Memorial either.

The capital is located 280 km south-west of Sydney and can be easily reached by train, bus or car. Ideally you should consider spending more than one day here as it takes 4 hours to reach the city by train (or 3 by car).

Sydney Scenic Air Tour

It might not be a day trip out of Sydney, but it surely can be a great way to see the greatness of the city. The bird’s eye view as you fly above the beautiful sandy beaches, coves and city skyline is something you will never forget. You could choose a helicopter flight taking you near the Sydney Harbour and its other attractions or you can go to Camden for a fantastic balloon experience while you float above the historic Macarthur area traveling in whatsoever route the wind might take you.

Sydney Harbour Cruises

Taking a Sydney Harbour Cruise is one of best ways to see the city from a different perspective. The amazing views of the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, City Skyline, and Fort Denison from various places when you sail will last for a lifestyle.

There are plenty of of cruises to choose from, so it’s a matter of budget and what you enjoy doing.
